It’s so apropos to write about Paris in regards to design, since it’s truly the mecca of where great artists trained and refined (and also defined) their craft. École des Beaux-Arts, an influential design school in Paris, focused on classical arts and architecture from Greek and Roman culture, thus creating the Beaux Arts Movement in the early 20th century. It’s amazing to think that from this very influential movement, developed the American contemporary design….a style that we all are so familiar with today. Furniture and accessories that are in many of our homes, are rooted back to the ideas and developments in Paris. Though their designs were often gaudy and ostentatious, the furnishings of today were developed from these idealized forms.
French design is so fresh and chic…it looks effortlessly thrown together, yet perfectly planned! The mixture of ornate, classical pieces, with modern and trendy accents, creates such an eclectic space.
Want to style your home with French decor? Add Parisian inspired accessories, pillows, or even a rug, similar to the accents shown above, that will complement any interior. A personal favorite, are the plum and green colored pillows by Honey Pie Design’s with the saying Je T’aime ~ I love you…how cool!
When I went to France a few years ago, it truly was a life changing experience and one that I will always remember with amazing memories. Here are a few of my pictures.
