Estate Sale Finds

Some of the best pieces in my home, I found at estate sales. An estate sale is a great place to find unique and conversational items that you wouldn’t see at an ordinary home furnishings store. Some typical estate sale finds, such as dining room chairs, buffets, side tables, coffee tables, etc, can be transformed into beautiful furniture pieces that complement your decor. Use your imagination when revitalizing your treasure. At first you might ask yourself “What would I do with this?”, but a little spray paint and/or a new trendy fabric, might be the trick to take it from blah to beautiful!
This ordinary side table in a dark wood finish is a typical find at an estate sale, but look how it was transformed into an elegant side table that can be used anywhere throughout your home.  This transformation was created by The How-To Gal.

Another typical find at an estate sale are old wood desks.  This one was updated by using dark walnut stain and changing the wood knobs to a simple, but sophisticated crystal knob.  Also created by The How-To Gal.

This is actually one of my finds from a recent neighborhood estate sale.  When I originally saw it, my intention was to use it in my daughter’s room as a book holder.  I thought it was unique and I would paint it to coordinate with her room colors.  When I got it home and cleaned it up, it went perfectly with the colors in my dining / living room, so it stayed “as-is”, and holds some large Architecture books that are too tall for the bookcase.
So next time you are driving on a Saturday afternoon and see a sign for an estate sale,
don’t pass it up!!
