It’s been over a week since I’ve shared happenings of my mini bedroom makeover. Last week was quite busy, but throughout the craziness, I was able to squeeze in a few moments to get this makeover moving forward. The aesthetic that I am desiring for this space is calm, inviting, and warm. The walls were just painted last year, so they are not changing. The bedding, which is classic white that I purchased from Pottery Barn years ago is also remaining. So you’re probably asking, “What am I changing and why I am doing a makeover?”. Upon updating the window treatments (which I love), I’ve also made some new pillows (which I’ll share soon), bought a new rug, and added some accents of orange to freshen up my little oasis.
When I first started thinking about this room, I was torn on what the accent color should be. After almost moving forward with a turquoise / blue hue, I decided on orange. Not a rustic color orange, but a bright, vibrant orange – a perfect accent to the white and taupe/gray tones.
The room really needed an update starting with the wall decor over the bed. We had a piece of art (nothing expensive or worth any value) for many years, and I wanted something with more punch and presence. I found this sunburst-type mirror at Homegoods a few months ago. The look and price (of $29.99) was quite appealing and I snagged it up. At the time of purchase, I didn’t quite know where it would go, but I couldn’t leave it – I just loved the design and spider-web type look.
After finally deciding on the orange accent, I knew this sunburst style mirror would be perfect for above the bed.
Two coats later, it was complete and ready to hang!
After living with this new over-the-bed decor, I had to bring some more of this vibrant orange accent color into the room. Next up for transforming? The base of the 2 lamps that sit on the dresser opposite of the bed! I originally thought about spraying painting the shade, but I love them so much, that I decided on updating the base of the lamps instead. This is a picture of them before their makeover.
So what do you think? Do you like the orange accents?
In the midst of these two spray painting projects, Valspar changed the design of their spray paint cans. The newly designed can now allows you to spray paint at “any angle”. I have to admit though, that the nozzle you press down on the new spray paint can is not as easy as the traditional spray can. I had to press down much harder, and I found myself focusing more on the can instead of the project, and that made spray painting more difficult. When spray painting, it’s a must to do light, even strokes, and I wasn’t doing that with the new style can. This wasn’t a project where I was reviewing a product, but it just happened to work out that way. I wasn’t asked or paid to give my opinion on the new Vaslpar Spray Paint, but I just thought I’d share my experiences and thoughts.
Have you tried the new Valspar spray paint can design?
I still have MORE to share on my mini bedroom makeover, but it’s coming along and I’ll showcase the final REVEAL soon!
