As you hopefully know, my blog is all about inspiring you through design and decorating ideas, tips, and do-it-yourself projects. To further inspire you, I thought it would be fun to start a new series called Creative Vision Wednesday, where each hump day I will create and share a new Creative Vision Board for a new room in the home.
In each post, I’ll explain alittle about how I created the board and how you can create something similar for your space. I won’t share specific product resources, but if you love the look, let me know and we can work together on creating a similar space for your home through my E-Design services.
So let’s start off the series with this new Red Hot Eclectic Creative Vision Board…
In all the interiors that I create, my #1 goal is to have a good balance between color, texture, and style. So let’s break it down…
For this space, I started with the chandelier, which is to die for! It’s gorgeous and RED HOT and is the focal point of the room. Can you imagine entering the room and seeing this…
Because the red is a bold and striking color, I wanted to downplay the other hues in the room, so I introduced varying shades of gray, charcoal, cream, and gold. But, the chandelier isn’t the only red in the room – this strong color can also be seen in pillows, accessories, and accents.
Different textures are so important to give a space depth and dimension. Other than the bold chandelier, this space is very serene and calming, yet completely NOT boring. The varying textures make you want to touch each element. From the grasscloth wallpaper…
… to the suede charcoal side chair to the iron legs and wood top coffee table to the leather lamp base, this room is filled with intrigue.
None of the rooms that I create are of a specific style – that’s too predictable and boring. I’m so not the matchy-matchy type. I love introducing elements that are modern, traditional, and everything in between. Creating a cohesive and balanced palette will allow the varying styles to blend together to create a show-stopping space.
In this room I chose a clean-line sofa with a Louis Regency arm chair. The modern charcoal fabric and cream colored frame allow it to feel balanced with the sofa combining traditional and modern elements.
The final finishing touch that I would add to this room would be black mouldings and trim. This design element has been around for a while, but I don’t think it’s going anywhere. I’m still ga-ga over black! Check out this room for inspiration.
My Advice to Design a Room Like This
To design a room like this of your own, start with one striking element (ie: the red chandelier) that will be the focal point of the space, then decorate around it.
Thanks for stopping by for the first Creative Vision Board. Be sure to stop by next week to see another room and another totally different interior concept.
