Happy Mother’s Day: Treasure the Moments

I wanted to take a few minutes this morning and wish all of the mom’s out there, a very Happy Mother’s Day!  Being a mother is the most exhausting, yet rewarding and gratifying part of being a woman.

While it’s only 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, we’ve already had 2 meltdowns, a  temper tantrum, a locked bathroom door (thankfully my daughter wasn’t inside this time), and a smoke detector going off (thankfully a false alarm) – all moments that I wish didn’t happen.  Yet, I also got an amazing handmade Mother’s Day card, lots of kisses and hugs, and “I love you’s” – all moments that I will treasure forever.

I recently asked my mom, “How did you deal with me as a kid and how did you enjoy me with all the tough times?” and her response was, “I chose to enjoy the moments”.  With young children, it’s near impossible to enjoy days, weeks, months at a time.  They are never perfect 24-7, yet it’s the moments of random kisses or that special something that they do, that is worth remembering and focusing on.

The simple, yet powerful words that my mom shared, has completely changed my views of being a mother.  It’s inevitable that there will be tough times (and lots of them), but I choose to remember and soak up every moment that puts a smile on my face.

These are my two bundles of joys…

While I’m getting ready to spend the day with my kids and my mom, I wish you a wonderful and amazing Mother’s Day.  And most of all, treasure the moments – they are what count!

Great post Jenna! You’re mom sounds like a wise woman. Life is all about the little things. I love being a mom too, but there are definitely some stressful or just plain annoying times, haha. Being a mom is all I ever wanted to do, and I’m blessed with an amazing stepdaughter and daughter. They are my pride and joy.

I wrote a Mother’s Day post to my stepdaughter’s mom. You should stop by and read it. I think it’s pretty good. ; )

Jenna reading your posting took me back to the struggle of getting my 6 children dressed and out the door. Between the “hey mom my pants don’t fit any more”, spats over whose turn it was to let the dog back in, “I don’t want to go”, “now I’m hungry” the phone ringing and the list goes on. I am not sure sometime myself how I still have hair. But now I get to enojy my grown children that I love with all my heart and they never forget to call me several times a week. Every Sunday is an adventure with the grandchildren when they come for dinner! Enjoy each moment with your children the moments and days pass quickly.
