Gallery Wall Ideas to Transform Any Room

Is it really Monday again?  I’m so not ready.  I had a busy weekend tackling a minor room revamp… the master… again.  I’m FINALLY trying to finish it this time instead of going half way and stopping.  It’s coming along nicely and I’ll share more on that this week – promise.  The kids room is at a standstill, but I chose a color for the walls – that’s progress {I guess}.  It’s a fairly light hue {so not me}.  I’m not entirely convinced it’s the right choice.  Here’s a peak.  Thoughts?

Anyway…  while the major work on the master is done, I’m starting to think about the walls.  I think a bedroom, since such a personal space, should be filled with things – pictures and elements – that are most important and dear to your heart.  SO what does that mean?  Another gallery wall for me.  And since I know y’all love gallery walls so much since these 2 posts are follower favorites – here and here – I have some more ideas and inspiration for you…

Putting Ideas into Action

Upon looking at all these layouts, a nail (or a few) eventually have to go into the wall to get those pictures hung.

But how?

When laying out multiple pictures, it’s always best to layout your design before picking up a hammer.  So how do you do that?  I always layout my pictures on the floor first before hanging them on the wall. For my daughters inspiration gallery wall, here was the process…

1. I layed the pictures on the floor.  Played around + repositioned them until I felt they were just right.

2. I knew I wanted the pictures to be in one line, so I took painters tape, measured down from the ceiling, and started that wall at that line.  I began with the upper center-most picture and hung it on the wall.

3. Then continued nailing and hanging each one.  It’s like a jig saw puzzle.

My thoughts + advice.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to creating a photo gallery wall.

A few tips…

1. Hang pictures at the right height.  The center of a larger photo /artwork (or the center of a grouping of photos) should (typically) be hung at an average person’s eye level, which is between 5′-3″ and 5′-6″.

2. Plan out your design.

3. Be unique. Choose photos and keepsakes that are meaningful to you.

4. Choose the right size picture for the wall. Create a grouping of pictures that is proportional with the wall.  And remember, your gallery wall can always expand.

Our couch sits on a long wall in our living room, but part of it goes past the end of the wall. Should we center our pictures on the couch or the wall? I can email a picture.

When a sofa or seating grouping is not centered on a wall, it gives you a great opportunity to create a gallery wall that doesn’t have symmetry. That’s what I would plan to do in your situation. Good Luck! Jenna
